OAG members and guests learned how Drayton Jones approaches the challenge of painting en plein air. Drayton shared his 4 step planning process, influential books and artists, his sketchbook and painting practices. We learned how to sketch, develop the lightest shape in the picture, divide paper into shapes and consider borders, and then plan values. Drayton does not worry about perspective or recording what is actually in front of him. He demonstrated his layering techniques and how he achieves an abstract and loose style. Some of our members even stayed and painted!
